Mathematics
After a couple of lessons on place value using the Base 10 manipulative blocks, skills were reinforced by presenting the Base 10 blocks in a different way - on a worksheet generated on Math-Aids.com.
To reinforce number sense - counting forwards and backwards by ones - the number line is a great tool to help students who struggle with this concept by providing them a visual of how the numbers are arranged.
Using the Touch Math program, I taught 3rd graders how to skip count by threes and fours in hopes that learning how to skip count by these number patterns will help them learn their threes and fours multiplication facts. The lesson included songs and kinesthetic activities where students had the opportunity to get up from their seats and move to the skip counting patterns.

Science
An introduction to "natural habitats" as well as the GLAD strategy KWL (Know/Want to Know/Learned) Chart to help students activate background knowledge and guide their thinking to what they are learning. This was the first time this class of third graders have used the KWL chart and they have completed them through a guided practice by copying down the responses of their other classmates. They then drew a picture of what their natural habitats looked like.
