Philosophy
Every student has an equal chance of succeeding, no matter where they come from. With hard work, discipline, and the desire to achieve, any person can attain what they want. Not everyone begins with having that desire to achieve and move forward, but they can be served that desire which can hopefully be ignited into a will and strong effort into success. As the renowned educator Jaime Escalante suggests, ganas or the desire can be served to those who cannot find it or cannot feel it. Those who receive ganas must hold onto that determination while the donor must also believe that their recipients can do this too. As educators, we are one of the main sources of inspiration for our students.
As a teacher, I want to hold to this same philosophy not only because of my namesake. I want to be determined for my students too, and I want to as hard as they need to in order to keep their inspiration alive. Inspiration, desire, positive energy, and enriched learning are all things that must be maintained in a classroom environment. All students must have that chance to be inspired to learn and love learning, and this can only start with setting the foundation for a positive environment in the classroom. A teacher is also a student’s model of what a life-long learner looks like and how a life-long learner holds onto the desire to always become better. It all begins with you as the teacher and how you choose to mold the minds of the students you encounter. I plan to do this in my classroom by honoring all different learning styles and needs and showing my students how they can succeed in school, life, and beyond by capitalizing on their strengths and providing them guidance in their weaknesses.
