Professional Induction Planning
A.
To clear my preliminary credential, I plan on enrolling in a BTSA program if my employing school district offers a free BTSA program. I will continue working on my Master's at Dominican University and earn my units through completing coursework at the university.
B.
1. Previous teaching experiences:
Instructional Aide at Mill Valley Middle School from September 2012 to March 2013
Substitute Teacher's Aide for Sonoma County Office of Education from March 2013 to present
Substitute Teacher for Sonoma County Office of Education and Petaluma City Schools from February 2013 to present (also authorized to sub in Sonoma Valley Unified School District and Waugh Elementary School District)
Student Teacher at Penngrove Elementary School (Petaluma City Schools) from July 2013 to present
2. Professional Interests:
All areas of special education, including settings for students with mild to moderate disabilities such as a Resource Specialist Program or Special Day Class. I am interested in working with all age groups, especially with upper elementary grades and middle school. I am also interested in working with special schools or programs such as SCOE's (Sonoma County Office of Education) program for K-12 students with emotional and behavioral disorders.
In the future, I intend on acquiring a Moderate/Severe Disabilities SPED credential as well to teach in different special education settings such as self-contained classes for K-12 students with severe cognitive disabilities.
3. Teaching Strengths:
- Creative and conscious planning of lessons
- Careful assessment of students' learning after implementation of lessons
- Behavior management of students with special needs, including positive behavior reinforcement
- Sensitive with confidential information
4. Particular areas of interest or need:
- Furthering professional development
- Continuing to work with students with autism and emotional behavioral disorders.
- Learning more about various learning disabilities and the best ways to accommodate and adapt lessons for them.
- Classroom management techniques - especially in the general education setting
- Utlizing different modes of assessment in the classroom
- Administering other formal assessments aside from the Woodcock Johnson, WIAT, and Brigance.
- Continuing to integrate curriculum such as PE, Art, Music, and more in core content areas.
5. In the next five years, I hope to still be teaching in special education. For the near future, I want to continue building experience teaching in the classroom setting. As the years progress I would like to say that I have taught in different settings that can build more into my background as a special education teacher. After obtaining my preliminary credential, I would be happy either teaching in an RSP or SDC setting. I also intend on my building my career beyond the classroom and use my Master's in Special Education. I will continue to do more research in the extra careers that I can branch out in with this degree and what else I can do with it - such as a job with the district office or anywhere higher up.
